Vineyard: Klostergarten – 50-70 year old vines
The Loewen Estate has grown significantly since its birth in 1805, when it began as a single hectare acquired by the Loewen family. Thanks to the efforts of Karl-Josef Loewen, who actively sought out steep, old vineyards that had fallen into neglect but whose low-yielding vines still held potential to create beautiful, expressive wine if returned to caring hands, the Estate now boasts 15 hectares. The fruit for ‘Alte Reben’ comes from one such parcel of 50-70 year old vines, grown on slate soils near the village of Leiwen. Highly aromatic with concentrated notes of citrus peel, fresh-picked apples, orange blossom, river rock and a hint of spice, this one is the perfect companion to a wide variety of dishes - everything from apple-stuffed pork tenderloin to sushi to pickled vegetables - but also easy to savor all on its own.
