Champagne France

2012

Not only does Jacquesson predate Krug, but Joseph Krug actually assisted with winemaking at the estate before opening his own champagne house. Brothers Laurent and Jean-Hervé Chiquet currently operate the estate following in their fathers footsteps beginning in 1980. The brothers decided instead of focusing on consistency, they needed to focus on quality. From there, they decided to release a new cuvee each year to make the best champagne possible even if it is a little different from the year before.

The 740 Degorgement Tardif is an extra special champagne! This blend of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Meunier spends 96 months on the lees before the sediment is then removed from the neck of the bottle (a process known as disgorgement). When removing the lees, a small amount of oxygen goes into the bottle and over time oxygen can seep through the cork. Without the lees to prevent this, the champagne starts to age. This champagne can be enjoyed immediately or you can set it aside and age it for a whole new experience.

As you sip, you will find notes of candied lemon, dried fruits, and a hint of nuttiness. Use as an aperitif or pair with oysters and light shellfish.
