“A world within a world” is how Poggio Landi describes their 75-hectare estate, nestled in the hills of historic Montalcino. Its vineyards span across all of Montalcino’s unique and elegant terroir, and sit at 170-500m above sea level. This combination of exposure to bright, Tuscan sunshine and altitudes that allow the grapes to cool off in the evenings provides perfect conditions for the grapes to ripen fully but maintain complexity and intrigue. 2016 is widely regarded a phenomenal vintage for Brunello di Montalcino with near textbook weather conditions throughout the growing season, allowing for well-balanced, age worthy wines showcasing profound depth, finesse and structure.This wine sees 38 months in French oak barrels and an additional 6 in bottle before release and has a complex bouquet of ripe red fruit, pepper, floral notes and cedar. On the palate, it displays silky tannins and flavors of red cherry, black plum and licorice, with touches of leather and stone on the finish. Enjoyable now, but will continue to develop beautifully for decades to come.
