With the help from his wife's family, Gyles Webb bought Thelema Estate in 1983 after leaving his accounting career. After nearly two decades of Thelema thriving, he was determined to add a second estate. In 2002 he purchased an apple orchard in Elgin Valley and Sutherland Vineyards was born. Set on a high plateau surrounded by four mountain ranges, the Elgin Valley’s altitude and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean provide a unique cool-climate location for growing grapes. This syrah ages for 18 months in a mix of new and used French oak barrels. Flavors of blackberry and plums are interlaced with notes of violet, black pepper and smokey cedar. Pair with grilled lamp chops or a wild mushroom risotto.
