Do Ferreiro is a family-run estate currently headed by Gerardo Méndez, who farms five hectares of vineyards in Rías Baixas, Galicia. Although Do Ferreiro was founded fairly recently in 1973, the family’s history in the region and the vineyards stretches back generations. The Do Ferreiro vineyards are located in the Salnes Valley, a coastal region with vineyard sites along the Atlantic Ocean coastline. The vineyard soils are filled with sand and granite. Méndez farms his vineyards organically, in order to “ensure the grapes reflect the wonders of their home.” The grapes, which come from 15-50 year old vines, are fermented in stainless steel using only native yeasts. With bright acidity and firm structure, this is a wine that can be enjoyed young and fresh, or with a few years of age.
