Château de Villeneuve is known for its vineyards located in the shadow of the steeple of a 15th century church. The Villeneuve family had owned the vineyards since the late 16th century, however it wasn't until a member of the family died at the Battle of Yorktown under Lafayette's command in the American Revolutionary War that the estate renamed itself. Today Jean-Pierre Chevalier runs the estate using organic principles, producing some of the most outstanding Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs in the Saumur region. This floral wine is fermented using native yeasts and is then aged in both stainless steel tanks and oak barrels. Notes of lemon zest, yellow apples, and pears are present throughout. Pair with steamed crabs, herbed chicken, and artisanal cheeses.
