Maranges, Burgundy, France
Brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet have been making a name for themselves as talented winemakers since their first vintage in 2005. They oversee several well-regarded vineyards within the Cote de Beaune, including in Puligny 1er Cru Folatières, Puligny 1er Cru Referts, Batard Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet, and some of the best parcels in Santenay. The Maranges 'Vieilles Vignes' comes from 40 year old vines on red clay and chalk soil, sitting hillside at 250-300m altitude. On the palate, this wine shows bright cherry, strawberry and blood orange flavors, with an underlying minerality and a long, earthy finish. This bottle would pair perfectly with wild mushroom risotto, roast duck or beef bourginnon.
