The Bava family has been growing grapes in this part of Northern Italy since 1600 though they did not beginbuilding their first wine cellar until 1911. Today, six generations have produced 100 different vintages of wine. In their 50 hectares, they focus on sustainable practices and a reduced environmental impact by using natural fertilizers and reusing rainwater. Cultivating different varietals in different parts of the vineyards helps them produce the best fruit in the most ideal locations. This 100% Barbera is grown in their Pianoalta estate on old vines and is aged in wooden vats for 18 months creating tasting notes of ripe currant, pepper and tobacco. Pair this wine with red pasta dishes or a heartier game, like venison.
