Under the winemaker Rui Roboredo Madeira, Beyra Reserva is part of a pioneering line of wines from the Beira Interior called Altitude Wines. The grapes in this region benefit from cooler climates, intense sunshine, and minimal temperature changes throughout the day. The slow, consistent ripening that occurs under these conditions leads to more concentrated flavors and a balanced finished product. The Beyra Reserva 2021 is 70% Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo) and 30% Jaen (Mancia). It spends 8 months in a combination of new American and French oak barrels. Well-balanced from nose to palate, the fruit is ripe black currant with elegant minerality and subtle barrel notes like toast, vanilla, and spices. Hearty roasts or classic Portuguese smoked meats would pair well with this ruby gem.
