Hailing from the Paarl region in South Africa, chef turned winemaker Tremayne Smith, is fighting the notion that Pinotage must be heavy, tannic, and over-extracted. This wine is naturally fermented and has very little, if any, sulfur added. Tannins are grippy and the fruit notes are crunchy, allowing the depth of the varietal to be showcased. Red stone fruit flavors complement a touch of clove. In Tremayne’s words “This is a serious wine with a lighthearted feel.”
