Chateau de Montravel’s vineyards are on the same ridge that extends east from the esteemed region of Saint Emilion on Bordeaux's Right Bank. This ridge of limestone overlain by a clay-based soil is ideal for Merlot, which is the primary grape in Right Bank Bordeaux blends. The Montravel appellation (named for the Chateau in 1936!) requires both reds and whites to be multi-variety blends, so this stunning 100% Merlot wine is instead classified as "Vins de France". Dark berries and plums supported by dried tobacco, earth and spice make for a well-balanced, complex and rustic expression of this classic grape and terroir. Enjoy alongside aged gouda or herb roasted leg of lamb.
