Claudio Mariotto is a family-owned winery located in the southeastern tip of Piedmont and was founded in 1921. It has been a historically known region for grape growing since the ancient Romans. Today, it is made up of 54 hectares of vineyards and they are known for growing 4 main varietals: Barbera, Croatina, Freisa, Timorasso and Dolcetto. This light to medium bodied red is made from a 500-year old grape varietal called Freisa which is native to Piedmont and closely related to Nebbiolo. Fine tannins, a refreshing acidity and notes of red and dark fruits with a touch of spice make this wine a great pairing for light game meats, tomato based pasta and mushroom dishes.
