The rural Denomination of Origin (DO) Terra Alta is located in southern Catalonia, Spain. Up until recently, the wines produced there were intended purely for locals due to its isolated location -- so isolated and beautiful that Picasso spent his summers there painting the rolling hills of the countryside. The DO is made up of both long-established and new wineries within 12 different municipalities that all continue the practice of vinification through a combination of traditional and modern techniques. This red wine is made from 100% Mencia grown in a mixture of slate, clay, and limestone soils, giving it an unmistakable fresh, fruity body. Dark berries, cherries, redcurrant, and a touch of salinity make this a great pairing for poultry dishes or sheep cheeses.
