Coquerel Family Wine Estates is located just beyond the town of Calistoga at the north end of the Napa Valley. The heart and soul of the winery is its estate “Walnut Wash” vineyard, a gorgeous, oak-studded property that sits in the afternoon shadows of the Mayacamas Mountains. Since 2005, they have done extensive enhancement and replanting of the site to ensure world-class fruit from vintage to vintage. The wine has a deep inky color and a highly aromatic nose, featuring rich black cherry, plums and cassis notes, supported by well-integrated baking spice, cedar and ripe pepper. Rich and dense with round, soft tannins, it then gives way to a long, pleasant finish. Partner this one with roasted lamb shanks with rosemary, aged hard cheeses or a classic cut of beef.
