The Carreiro family has run this winery since the 10th Century and makes their wines exclusively with Galician varieties of grapes, harnessing the power of their land to enhance the unique characteristics brought to each wine. Their name, 'Coto de Gomariz' comes from the name of the village 'Gomariz' which is derived from the Spanish word 'Gomariza' which means 'vine shoots'. They hail the Sousón grape as their flagship varietal, though it is grown on the youngest vines in the vineyard. This wine is 100% Sousón and is aged for 4 months to soften the strong tannins naturally present in the grapes and enhance their distinct flavor profile. Bold, dry, and still showcasing good tannic structure, expect to find tasting notes of smoke, violets, black fruit, and a spicy, herbaceous finish. Pair this with grilled lamb accompanied by a rich potato side dish.
