Domaine Laroche is one of only three proprietors in Les Vaudevay a Premier Cru climat within Chablis. The name ‘Vaudevay’ comes from the Latin word “Vadum,” which translates to “humid place” because of the river that used to flood the entrance of the valley. A particularly cool climate, Les Vaudevay is typically the last of the Premier Cru vineyards to be harvested. Lacroche’s vines are planted at altitudes of 640-771ft, enjoy an eastern to southeastern aspect and sit upon rocky topsoil, aiding drainage and retaining additional heat allowing the fruit to develop ripe, complex aromas and flavors that lend themselves to both early enjoyment and graceful aging in the bottle. An elegant example of lean Chablis, expect a delicate bouquet of pears, lemon zest, white and yellow flowers, river rock and hint of brioche, with flavors of crisp golden apples and citrus and a laserlike minerality.
