Lebanon is likely not the first place to come to mind when one thinks about wine regions of the world, but viticultural history here dates back nearly 7000 years. Located on the eastern edge of the Mediterranean sea, a dry, sunny climate with cooling influences from the sea and from the altitude of the mountains creates ideal growing conditions for many varieties of grapes. Domaine de Baal was founded by winemaker Sebastien Khoury after years spent training in Saint-Emilion in Bordeaux. The estate sits at 1200m in elevation and overlooks the magnificent Bekaa Valley. A blend of organically farmed Syrah and Merlot, 'Le Petit Baal' is deep ruby in the glass with bold notes of dark plum, blackberry compote and licorice, with touches of Mediterranean herbs, black pepper and tobacco leaf on the finish.
