Bonarda
Mendoza, Argentina
In the hands of winemakers Alejandro Vigil and Adrianna Catena (daughter of renowned winemaker Nicolas Catena and a historian), El Enemigo strives to create quality wines that truly tell a story and hearken back to the era in which European settlers originally reached Argentina. Located in the foothills of Maipu in Mendoza, the vines sit at 2,145-4,851ft. on calcareous soils of chalk, sand, forcing the roots deep into the earth and concentrating the flavors in the grapes. The wine is deep violet in the glass, with inviting aromas of black cherry, blueberries, cocoa and a touch of dried herbs. Medium bodied with silky tannins and flavors of rich dark fruit, licorice and spice, this wine would be a perfect companion to empanadas, swordfish or mole sauces.
