Isola Augusta was purchased in 1959 by Renzo Bassani and is now third generation family owned. The estate is considered both modern and ancient, while the surrounding city itself dates back to Roman times, their grapes are grown and bottled on the property and they have adopted numerous ecological and sustainable farming practices including renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources. The soil is comprised of clay, silt and sand and with their proximity to the sea, they are able to create dry, high quality wines. This is made from 100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, a grape with genetic links to Valpolicella and you can expect tasting notes of dried tobacco, leather and purple fruits including blackberry. Pair this red with a hearty meat dish or a pasta with red sauce.
