As a fifth generation Napan, John Kongsgaard came of age when the number of Napa wineries could be counted in the teens. After getting his master’s in viticulture and enology from UC Davis, he worked at several historic wineries including Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars and Newton Vineyards before producing the first vintage of Kongsgaard in 1996. John and his wife Maggy purchased property on Atlas Peak in 2004 where the extremely steep, low-yielding vineyards produce their opulent yet graceful Chardonnays. The 2021 vintage shows classic crème brûlée richness alongside notes of toasted almond and tropical citrus with a long, spicy finish. Pairs lovely with scallop bisque.
