A new project with a grand history, Bodegas Forjas del Salnes is a winery born in a garage in 2005 using land which has been in the family of Rodrigo Mendez for over 100 years. Mendez and award-winning winemaker Raul Perez focus on using traditional methods learned over generations to produce wines which typify classic Galician reds and whites. They may have less than 8 hectares of land, but the vines growing in the sandy, granitic soils are between 30-90 years old. The grapes for Leirana Albarino are hand harvested from three different parcels in the Salnes Valley. One near the sea, one further inland and the third in the hills. Each parcel is vinified separately using natural fermentation, 80% in stainless steel tanks and 20% in barrels. The light salinity from the oceanic influence, coupled with flavors of nectarine, lime zest & citrus blossom makes this a perfect wine to drink with oysters.
