The Loewen estate's roots date back to 1803, when the Maximin Order auctioned off vineyards to help raise money for the Napoleonic government. Starting with that first vineyard, the Loewen family quickly began expanding. Carl Loewen was able to track down many old, steep, and low yielding vineyards and bring them back to life. Christopher Loewen and his father Karl-Josef are the current owners of the estate, but have continued Carl’s perfected practices to create beautiful wine. ‘Alte Reben’ comes from the Mosel region, rich with slate soil. It has delicate notes of apple, citrus, and some cinnamon spice. A glass would go well with a pan-roasted pork tenderloin or a spicy seafood pasta.
