Pernand-Vergelesses, Burgundy, France
For more than 150 years, the House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional red and white Burgundy wines across a wide range of vineyards, villages and cru levels, and has earned its reputation as one of the most widely revered producers in the Cote d'Or. The clos on which the fruit in this particular cuvee was grown is not far from the village of Pernand, and a large stone cross (la Croix de Pierre) stands sentinel at the entrance to the vineyard. With aromas of fresh lemon peel, white flowers, beeswax and vanilla, this wine is exquisitely layered and just entering its peak drinking window. On the palate, the wine is crisp but soft, with baked yellow apple, citrus and caramel flavors that would make a perfect accompaniment to seared scallops with butter and lemon or classic Swiss fondue.
