Kotsifali
Crete, Greece
Winemaking in Greece goes back over 6,000 years, with grapes thriving in the high altitudes that combat the Mediterranean climate. This makes it one of the most sought-after European areas for production. This organic eastern Crete winery was founded in 1966 by brothers Manolis and Sotiris and continues to be run by second-generation family winemakers, with a focus on organic viticulture since 2020. Hand-harvested in the first week of September, this blend of 12% Kotsifali and 88% Syrah is then aged in oak barrels for 9 months. Notes of berries, dark fruits, oak, and spice are met with a fruity finish. Pair this medium-bodied wine with moussaka, roasted lamb, or marinated beef skewers.
