100% Plyto
Crete, Greece
If you’ve never experienced a wine from Greece you have definitely been missing out! Winemaking in Greece goes back over 6,000 years and the terroir ranges all over the island, but grapes thrive in the high altitudes. The high altitude helps combat the Mediterranean climate which makes it one of the hotter European areas for production. This organic eastern Crete winery was founded in 1966 by brothers Manolis and Sotiris. They grow over eleven varietals and have devoted themselves to the revival of indigenous grapes, three of which have been saved from the verge of extinction. Made from 100% Plyto, this light-skinned grape was brought back from extinction by the Lyrarakis family after planting vines in the 1980s. This white is a unique, fuller body white has a light acidity with herby and tropical notes including peach. Pair with a seafood pasta or a savory cheese plate.
