Vinho Verde, Portugal
In 2009, Francisco Baptista began making wines that explored different terroirs of the Vinho Verde region in northern Portugal. With a heavy influence from the Atlantic Ocean throughout the entire winemaking region, Francisco focuses on soil types and exposure. The Loureiro and Alvarinho in this blend grow in granitic and gravely soils, showcasing the weight and richness of Alvarinho and the way it complements the freshness and acidity of Loureiro. The grapes are gently pressed and undergo temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks, allowing the natural lime, apple, and passionfruit notes to shine without being altered or muted by the use of oak. Try a fun summer pairing: crostini with queijo fresco and slices of grilled peach drizzled with honey.
