85 Sangiovese Grosso, 10 Merlot, 5 Colorino
Tuscany, Italy
This Italian stunner hails from Montalcino, Cinigiano. The vines were planted in a medium mixture soil with skeleton presence (Spooky!). The Poggio is a red blend of 85% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot, and 5% Colorino. The grapes are harvested during the last 10 days of September. They are cut, pressed, and peeled before fermentation; which lasts for 20 days. The wine is then aged in Slavonian Oak barrels for half of the process and then French oak barrique for the 2nd half; a total of 3 months. After the barrel aging process, they are aged in bottles for 3 months before being shipped. The Poggio has hints of red berries and black fruit. Grilled meats and salads would be a great pairing for this wine.
