This dark and flavorful wine has a truly ancient history. The Nero di Troia grape is named after the town Troia of Puglia which was founded by Diomedes after the fall of ancient Troy. The family-owned winery of Masseria Furfante in northern Puglia only grows grapes indigenous to the area. Harvest here is nearly two months later than that of Southern Puglia, creating wines rich in style and high in alcohol.

This Nero di Troia is simliar to Frappato in style, with notes of red cherries, red currants, tobacco and black pepper. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks and rounded out with a year of aging the bottle before release. This would be beautiful with a large bowl of pasta!
