Anta Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro, Gouvelo
Alentejano, Portugal
First established as an estate in 1267, this winery started its wine production in 1973, owned by winemakers José Roquette and Joaquim Bandeira. The Roquette family acquired the winery in 1985 and is considered one of the largest organic wine producers in Portugal. Grown on 18 year old vines in granite, clay-loam soils this white is made from a blend of Antão Vaz, Arinto, Roupeiro and Gouveio varietals, all of which are native to Portugal but are usually infrequently imported to the United States. Aged in both stainless steel and oak, this white has a complex yet elegant body. You can expect tasting notes of spice, citrus and white fruit. It pairs excellently with fresh grilled fish.
