This Italian winery had all been retaken over by nature when Elisabetta Fagiuoli and her partner Sergio Muratori bought the property in the 1960s. Having survived two wars, the property lay abandoned and had to be rebuilt. 'Montenidoli' translates to 'mountain of the bird nests' which a true testament to the oasis of biodiversity and organic farming on the property. The estate is made up of 200 hectares including vines and olive trees and has a bit of a prehistoric history. Located in Tuscany between Florence and Siena, the Ligurian Sea once covered the property over 2 million years ago and left the soil rich in marine sediment, perfect for growing white grapes. This aromatic, full-bodied white is made from 100% Vernaccia, a varietal that has roots in Tuscany dating back to the 13th century. With tasting notes of jasmine, white flowers, pears and hazlenut, this white pairs well with aged cheeses and seafood.
