Family owned for more than 100 years, Piekenierskloof is situated between West and East-facing hills, sitting at 750 meters above sea level in the Citrusdal Mountain plateau. An exemplary native environment for vines to thrive, the natural climate in this area is defined by warm days and cool nights, all of which allows grapes to steadily ripen, maturing to develop complex flavors. The tannat grapes are handpicked and cold soaked for 24 hours, fermented with selected yeasts, then aged in old french oak barrels for 12 months. This full-bodied wine has notes of blackberry, dark chocolate, and spice paired with high acidity and well-structured tannins. Pair with venison, wild mushrooms, and beefsteak.
