Passerina
Lazio, Italy
Passerina is an ancient central Italian grape, beloved for its bright acidity and delicate aromatics. In the hands of Pileum, and in Lazio’s Frusinate hills just south of Rome, this grape truly shines. The area’s soils are a mix of volcanic and calcareous clays, giving wines both weight and mineral clarity. The climate blends Mediterranean warmth with cooler mountain breezes, which preserve freshness and fully ripen the fruit. The 2023 vintage offers crisp meyer lemon and green apple, layered with wildflowers, tarragon, and a subtle almond finish. Fresh, light, and effortlessly drinkable, this wine pairs with fried calamari, seafood risotto, or Roman classics like cacio e pepe and artichokes alla Romana.
