While many are familiar with the powerful wines of Barolo, the subregion of Serralunga is perhaps lesser well-known. Serralunga is home to more Serravalian soils (among the oldest in the territory) than anywhere else in the entire Barolo DOC. Many believe it is this soil that gives Nebbiolo its power, arguably making Serralunga “more Barolo” than the village of Barolo! The Pira family has called the hills of Serralunga home for several decades and have developed a deep understanding and respect for terroir here. Bursting with notes of red cherries, raspberry compote, leather, rose petals, hay and spice, this wine looks dainty in the glass and shows incredible elegance on the nose, but comes through with the muscularity and structure that, while enjoyable now, will allow this one to age beautifully for decades to come.
