Protos has paved the way for wine making in Spain by becoming the first winery in Ribera del Duero and founding the appellation in 1927. They then went on to gain universal recognition and win gold medals for their first vintages just 2 years later. Built at the base of Peñafil Castle, Protos ages their wines in underground tunnels. The 15-year old vineyards where this Verdejo is grown sit upon dry, gravelly soil, forcing the roots to dig deep into the earth in search of water. Medium-bodied with notes of pineapple, yellow apple and fresh herbs, this wine pairs nicely with Paella or white fish.
