On the border between Romagna and Tuscany, Villa Papiano has been growing and farming organically and biodynamically since 2000, with the first vintage of their ‘Papesse’ Rosso Sangiovese made in 2002. The four siblings that make up Villa Papiano, Francesco, Maria Rosa, Giampaolo, and Enrica, work hand-in-hand to stay faithful to nature and live in symbiosis with their environment. Utilizing spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, growing in sandstone-derived soils, and spending 6 months aging in concrete, 6 months minimum in bottle, this ruby red wine is comprised of 95% Sangiovese and a 5% blend of Balsamina and Negretto. Showcasing notes of red fruit with elegant tannins, this medium-bodied wine would pair best with tomato and meat-based dishes, hard cheeses, and pizza.
