Bodegas Yllera was founded in the early 1970s by brothers Jesus and Pepe Yllera. Today they are run by the 6th generation of family members and pride themselves on being environmentally friendly. To help avoid oxidation and loss of aromas, they exclusively harvest their grapes at night. Ribera del Duero is known for it Tempranillo and this blend is no exception. It is made up of 90% Tempranillo, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Merlot. The vines range in age from 15-50 years and the wine spends 10 months in French and American oak barrels. This produces tasting notes of dark berries, licorice, smoke and a touch of vanilla. Pair it with Iberian ham or gamier meats, like venison or lamb.
